We have been learning about Catholic Social Teaching principles in Year 1. We decided to put our faith into action using the principle of Option for the Poor. We asked our school families to donate items for the Andover Food Bank, then sorted, packed and delivered food parcels for local families in need.
To mark the Epiphany, Deacon Michael joined the prefects to bless our school and our classrooms for 2024. We marked every doorway with this sign: 20 + C + M + B + 24 Deacon Michael said prayers and sprinkled us all with Holy Water.
We with the Andover Tree Project, a town-wide initiative, to plant new trees every year. The world was made by God and we have a responsibility to take care of it - we are the stewards of creation.
We respond to the challenge of the scripture every week through our reflections in the Mission Challenge book.
Children from across the school ministered so we could celebrate Ascension Mass with Father Austin. We read scripture, led prayer, served at the altar, took part in the offertory procession and led singing with our voice and signing choir. At the end of Mass, Father Austin blessed our new rosaries.
We gathered together as a whole school with parents and parishioners to honour Our Lady during the month of May. The children planned their prayer tables, tableau's and readings and donated flowers for our altar.
To welcome the season of Lent, we joined schools across the country for the OneLife Music Lent Livestream - making space in our busy day to pray, listen to scripture and reflect on the changes we are trying to make this Lent.
We marked Remembrance Day by gathering together to listen to scripture, pray and reflect on the sacrifices that have been made. We were joined by friends and families as we laid our wreath.
